Was in Qatar 4 years ago, train was free for all during the world cup…. Media would have you believed it was the worst ever nation to host the world cup….

Yet these Mugs in the US ripping fans off and killing children in Iran not a peep from the Media!

I like Simon’s perspective on this.
They got this World Cup completely uncosted. Why should US companies and cities foot the bill?
Personally, I will probably watch England games but litle else.
I hate international football. It’s dull to watch and it completely messes up the domestic leagues. I don’t want the season to start in August only to stop in September for nations league or some other BS.
My club is in the Championship.
I don’t even think that league is gonna be viable in the next decade.
Everything is driven towards the super league model.
My dad told me back in the day when I was a kid walking back from Vicarage road, once the premier league took effect it would ruin football.
I’d say it’s not ruined the game, VAR has done a job of that. But it has ruined the spirit. It’s all about money.
The World Cup in the US was always gonna be expensive. Absolutely everything is expensive nowadays.
I’d have liked to have gone to see Oasis but guess what? Out of my price range.

This issue is a lot more nuanced than people realize. I am English and I live in New Jersey, and I take New Jersey transit every day.

FIFA will make $11 billion from this World Cup. They insist on a level of security and service from all public transit providers, that massively increases the cost. The other factor is the vast majority of people will be spending money in New York, and then taking the train to the stadium in New Jersey.

The new governor is in a lose lose situation. If she just accepts that the state will be paying $50 million to support the World Cup, Republicans will claim she’s not managing the budget, and then when she does take a stand on it, people are claiming that she is price gouging.

New Jersey transit is not a private company, she has said that the cost of the ticket is what is required for New Jersey to recoup the $50 million.

People should be pissed off at FIFA not the state of New Jersey

Utter bull Simon. I bet people travel from New York to the MetLife for Giants and Jets games by public transit. Why should filling the stadium for a football game be any different? Pure greed to get international fans to pay for long term capital outlays

First, for those trains which were running om those days anyway its a moot point and pure opportunism.

Second, for the additional trains required for the demand – wouldnt the riders on those trains (assuming the train is significantly full) pay for the cost to operate the train?

NJ transit is a semi-public not for profit corporation.

As an American i wish we never decided to host this competition. The games will be filled by rich people rather than the average fan here(yes we have legit football fans here lol). Just gonna wait for the next one to be honest

Football has been hijacked by the woke society. It's used to push political agendas. The working man has been priced out a long time ago. Sport should never be used as a political tool.

There is greed and then there is pure extortion. This entire tournament is the latter. People should refuse on mass to buy anything they are selling, especially match tickets. Most distasteful world cup ever.

Choosing the USA as a host of World Cup only shows how corrupt FIFA is. We all know that the USA don't have suitable for this event public transport. By the way they are many more reasons why the world should boycott WC.

Stall the ball, more people on the train means more tickets sold which means more profit at the end of the year, they don’t need to put the price up to make a profit out of it!!!

Cars are not allowed at the parking lots of the MetLife stadium just to constrain people from getting to the stadium in their cars and left with the option of taking the train. That’s criminal and pure extortion.
