Hard case luggage is also difficult on long haul european trains as it's hard to fit them in the luggage racks My go to is a 2 wheel soft sports bag style duffel, with a carry on backpack with a sleeve that fits over my luggage handle
I also lost a wheel in North Paris. My tip is the locals there have cheap suitcases for travel to Morocco etc. You can get one for 20 euros. Don't waste your money on getting a new expensive suitcase. There are solutions even when travelling.

Some terrible advice. Good advice = don't bring that much useless stuff, don't bring a wheel backpack at all. Be better.
