What essentials items are you taking when you go out on long rides?
Thanks for the great content! However imho there is item that needs to be on the list regardless where you go. A piece of rope at least 1m.
I pack chemlight light sticks. They dont take up a lot of space and the batteries wont go dead.
Spare fuses.
Spare Tire tubes. If your tubeless, a plug kit. And of course a small fist sized compressor that runs off 12v. Probably the most common trail “breakdown”
Then there are a few women riders riding around the world without any of these tools and have been okay for the past 5 years, how embarrassing they made the guys on their BMW look like, Charlie Boorman was his name? 😅
Walk 50 miles? Lmao….adv riders ride on ROADS. Other people drive on roads .. walk 50 miles😂😂
Lol….JB weld😂…seriously? 😂😂

You can't pay enough for this level of wisdom. Thanks for sharing brother.
Cool little trick with the dirt and gas. Something I will remember for the future for sure. Thank you! Great list.
sorry the med kit you have is a joke, read up on "iFAK", worse things can happen that a bandaid, will not help.
have a good paper map, a military grad compass. it is how they are built. but learn to use it.
and yes to having ways to fix things, sad here in cal only a palm sized can of bear spray is legal.
there are so many things out there that should be with you it would load up the bike.
but carry a gallon of water, "energy bars", better medical, communications, emergency cover, spare parts, etc. just for a day ride.
Thank you. Great advice!
Cf labs sounds great!
I would add that water bladders can and WILL leak. They can be easily punctured. Smart Water bottles or a stainless container should be added in addition to your easily accessible water bladder.
I always carry bear spray wherever I ride in New Zealand, it works great I've never seen a bear yet.
U forgot the fire extinguisher…
Hi, a very good and informative video. I have one small comment about the emergency space blanket. I had to use one on an unplanned overnight bivy on the Middle Teton in Wyoming and it sucked! I was with a girlfriend and we were holding it over ourselves all night and it wasn't nearly large enough, any air movement resulted in a cold unwelcome few minutes. A real bag that can surround you is better, and if you are with someone that you care about romantically it better be large enough for 2 or you will be out in the cold!
Salt, sugar, tea/coffee, some beef jerky.
Ah yes, I love my food to smell like gasoline
I didn't watch the video, but I am not bringing a bear on my adventure rides.
Thank you 🙏
Also print a list before going that has all your bike dealers and shops along the route with their contact info and hours of operation. So you always have the closest one on hand available when needed.
Like my Africa Twin, dealers along route, shops along route, and maybe gas stations closest to paved roads before and after dirt to pavement junctions.
As a long haul trucker for 30 years and counting we have to know all the fuel stops along our given routes. If I leave Oakland California, from memory I have to know every fuel stop between there and say Des Moines Iowa, to Amarillo Texas, to Los Angeles. Where to park, get food, fuel, shopping etc. from memory, no print out, and be able to communicate to anyone on the fly how to get there and what’s near by, what it’s like and what to expect.
So it makes sense to have all of that printed out ( dealers and shops) like a sequential shopping list on hand should phone or GPS break. Also, study the map of your route. Google maps street view of the dirt/ paved junctions before you go to familiarize yourself a little bit about what to expect as you go.
Another trick is to drop pin markers on your map for future trips. I drop green pins for my out of the ordinary parking spots of where I slept last time I went there so next time I can see them come up as I approach them again. Same for fuel stops except they can be yellow. Green for sleep, yellow pin for fuel, shops, dealers etc.
One last tip, have a free app like OneNote for storing routes. Example. Say you are going BDR across Oregon. On Google maps, desktop, build your route turn point by turn point. You can do ten at a time. Click share, click copy link.
Open notes app and paste link in notes app and list as trip leg one, 2 etc. as you go to each one click link to place next segment into maps preloaded and ready to go on your phone. No need to reassemble route.
Screenshot the overview of the route and paste screenshot as a book cover for each link. When needed, you should be able to cross reference your route overview with your paper maps to quickly get your bearings and where to go.
The more information you can remember about the trip before you go, the less stress and more fun you can have due to increased familiarity before you go. Remember, learn all you can before you go about where you are going instead of trying to learn as you go to where you are going. Less stress means more fun😂
Hope these tips help!
Thoughts anyone?
I take a honda with me. Never fails
Good advice
just a brilliant video thank you

@6:43 – You can hold body parts on the bike when you cut them off yourself with the knife
Thanks for being authentic without hype. Solid production value, valuable info, great channel.
Bailing wire for exhaust repair ;Zip ties wont work. Spare fuses. Bic.
Really? Everything but a firearm? Your list is so very liberal soft and "politically correct". How does somebody get the hungry bear/mountain lion to stand downwind of them when their bike breaks down and they're 50 miles away from civilization?

Great list. A few extra I have needed: Tape, small tow strap, signal mirror (or have takedowns), portable light source like a headlamp, water sanitation (either filter, bleach, or tablets), portable battery pack, and powder electrolytes.
I’m a fan of cheap fixed-blade knife like a Mora and a Ferro-rod, great for most firelighting needs. Like others have mentioned, a headlamp is a must if you travel where it gets dark and a honest to god fleece beany to put on your head when the helmet comes off.
thank you for the video…👏
Extra key just incase and umbrella for the weather.wet or hot..water catcher if needed also..
Again, just found you today. I’ve watched 3 of your videos today and learned something from each. I like that you advocate preperation. Thank you.
What about a gun?
Excellent
Dude. What is that tire on the back of the bike in your truck ?
body parts?!?
I would ALWAYS have bug repellent. The liquid bottle stuff is small and you can go completely crazy, especially at night with mosquitoes.
I’m gonna be riding a 150cc scooter which isn’t a motorcycle but she’ll do. I’m gonna be riding with my buddy on his Honda Ruckus and just coasting at 50-60mph will be great for adventures
Id bring a life straw or something similar, they are light weight and are only the size of a water bottle. Also a small bike pump and a secondary source of ignition like a firesteel or ferro rod and some Vaseline which can be used for fire as well as tire mounting.
Don’t forget stainless wire.
I gotta watch this when I am not falling asleep way past midnight .
