should use some sort of cover for shoes/sandals before putting in your bag so dirt and germs don't transfer everywhere.
Laurie, I pack one fleece sweater and one pair of fleece pants. They're warm if I need them, but they aren't so thick that they wouldn't be perfect for cooler evenings.
The pouch attaches to the hooks on the front of the backpack saving you space inside the bag
interesting
Usually pack personal items only. Five day walking trip on a budget airline. No problem. A week in Europe … No problem. Camera and tablet too.
For our trip to Germany a few years ago I packed good ole fashioned tights in a few colors in case it was colder. I have MS so I had to be prepared for acclimation times between any 10-20° temp changes. First time abroad for 10 days and my smaller than required tote bag had double of what I actually needed. Same with husbands Jansport backpack. We're planning on going back (his adult kids are there) and I'm trying to figure out if we can get 1/2 of what we brought the first time into a personal only bag for Lufthansa's requirements. Contact lenses cases carried most of what I needed along with a few 1oz and one 2oz container for liquids. Absolutely none of my medications are allowed in Germany, Iceland or Denmark so I had planned on double vitamin packs and 3 protein shakes daily. Surprise, there was a limit on that for Iceland and Frankfurt. Sent vitamin packs and individual protein packs to the child we'd see last so I would make it. Souvenirs were purchased days 5&6, packed in freshly laundered first part of trip clothes and sent in the mail. They arrived about 4 days after got home.
If we can't get everything into a personal bag we will share a carry on seeing my husband is already panicked at the thought of potentially having to do some necessities shopping while there.
The airport assistance was a Blessing. There is no way I would have made it getting off the plane in Green Bay, through O'Hara and got to our flight on time. Same for getting through Frankfurt. Denmark never did send anyone or even a wheelchair for my husband to push me around in and they have a huge airport, that one was disappointing.
It's been enough time for our travel items to have been loaned out and eithet not returned, didn't work as well as we needed or got damaged from our overuse. I'm binge watching your videos before starting any replacements shopping and loving how detailed you are
Even though I'm not going to travel to the US, your videos always give me inspiration every time I need to pack my luggage or bag ,haha .. all, over again n again
This is going to sound crazy, but how do you charge your phone if you don’t take a converter? Does you battery pack last the whole time? I’m thinking of a 10 day trip and was wondering what’s the best way to make sure I have a charge on my phone? Last time I traveled was years ago and I took the bulky converter. Next time I’d like to not take the bulky converter (plus I’m not sure what I did with it too and it may be outdated. It’s been that long).
Do you happen to know how large Hawaiian Air allows for under seat bags? Calling HA gave me 7 different answers. No one there knows. Not even employees leaving for lunch when I drove to LAX to find out; everyone else had left.
They should give people with large feet a little bit of leeway just for our shoes alone. If I put sneakers in my personal bag that will be all that goes in without creasing my shoes.
Great Video… I use a backpack that opens like a book and it really helps.
Thank you and have a great day.
I have found that EVA is very stingy with under-seat bags, yours won't work. EVA only allows personal bags to be 12" x 16" x 4" or basically the size of a Purse and sorry I don't carry a purse. And my medications, and liquids, and glucose meter, electronics (laptop or tablet) power bank would not all fit in that. You know all the stuff you might need to pull out quickly for TSA Screening. So my plans for a carry on and personal bag only went out the window because of this one little rule. Before booking a trip check to see what the carry on and personal size bag limits are for the airline you're choosing to fly. I already had mine booked before I found this out. Of course, on the on the other hand, last year I traveled in 1st class to Hawaii on Delta. My under-seat bag met their requirements, but because of the way the seats are made it would not fit under the seat in front of me and I ended up with it under my feet most of the flight. You just never know what your going to get when you get there. You might make it onto the plane and find all your pre-planning and hours researching will still lead you to problems.
My husband would not believe I could pack for Italy and cruise (two weeks total) in a bag that fit under the seat in front of me. Well, challenge accepted. I was secretly worried, but it worked out. I used the 5-4-3-2-1 method and did a wash on the cruise. I watched people struggling with large rolling suitcases and felt a wee bit smug. 😊
Since watching your videos, I am no longer that person who over packs or thinks what to wear for a trip? 1 carry bag only – still working on the 3 shoe limit 😅 Love the weightlessness when traveling now. Thanks for the tips ❤
I just use the extra clothing layers as padding for the seat. I need lots of fluffy support!
Does the under seat bag count as the overhead bin carry on or can you have both? And a purse or fanny pack? I heard purse and fanny packs count as apparel if you wear them the right way.
First – lite weight bag is the key
I discovered your channel recently and have loved all the packing hints. My husband and I are getting oler, and dealing with luggage is a hassle and painful. We make one 7-day trip to a resort in Cancún. I'd like to see some tips for choosing and packing warmer weather clothes and a couple of dressier outfits. TIA.
Best hack I have learnt, supplies can be purchased almost anywhere you are traveling to, only bring the essentials. Donate the extra you bought before returning home. You are a tourist no one cares that you are wearing a white t shirt for 5 days because you bought a 5 pack.
Question…I have a Samantha Brown set, Carry on bag and "Dr Bag" that sits on top. I put the DR bag under my seat In the past, I put my small Crossbody cellphone/wallet inside that bag Am I still allowed to do that? It carries my ID, Credit cards, money and cellphone I read somewhere that the new scanners can see that, and charge for a second " personal Bag" Is that true?
Good morning I am traveling international but then going on a smaller plane that only allows 40 x 20 x 30 cm bag. It’s gonna be for seven days so there’s no way I’m not to fit my clothes in that size plus if I want any souvenirs. But if you could give me advice on a bag that fits those dimensions because, I do not have one🥲 that small.
I do want to use it as a daypack too, because I will be hiking that would be perfect.
Thank you
I have this bag and LOVE it
Thank you for sharing your video. 😊
I’m trying to minimize my makeup products. I’ve seen videos where blushes, lipsticks, eyeshadows, foundations, etc…, are de-potted & put inside smaller containers or in makeup palettes. I will do this for our upcoming trip to Grand Haven, MI. Also, I use a blow dryer brush & hair straightener. The blow dryer brush is bulky. I have a smaller one but it has 600 watts. Oh good grief I need more wattage! 😂 Any ideas or tips for hair appliances?
What brand are the fleece lined leggings?
Love these hacks — saving money and scoring upgrades is what every traveler wants! I share similar airline tips and tricks on my channel Fly Logic. Great to see others helping travelers get the most out of their flights! ✈💸
Thank you!
Great tips, thank you. Shoes should always be in a shoe bag or light plastic bag/s for hygiene, but better space if in two bags rather than a pair. Also sometimes packed in normal configuration is better than usual heel to toe. I put socks in my shoes. Then often a small compression packing cube sits nicely over toe area.
I never use toiletry bag- small flat clear pouches more space efficient- shower, after shower, makeup. Also helps for security.
favorite hack ever: all lotions (make up as well) in contact cases. Over 21 days I only ran out of toothpaste and deodorant. I'm going to invest in toothpaste tabs for my next trip.
I have enjoyed your videos, but wish you would edit out all the "if that makes sense" phrases.
Wonderful. Personal bag packing only is becoming more common so this will be useful
Wonderful and very well thought out travel tips. I’ve watched so many travel tip videos and this one is by far the best. Thank you.
Can you wear those Vionic Uptown shoe all day?
I think you mean you like clamshell style. Too loading is the pink one. Thx for the tips.
Link leggins
Link backpack
Hi Laurie! Can you put the link to the fleece leggins on here? Thanks!!!
For years my husband and I would travel solely carryon without a problem. Our cases, WITH wheels, are 20“ x 14 x 4. These days, especially since 2022, more people are traveling and use their “points” to board first, even though my husband and myself paid extra for more room. These people took our overhead bin space, then proceeded to their seat in back of the plane. The flight attendant did not do anything to help us. If it isn’t this scenario, we are in boarding group B or C; which means the space has been taken most of the time. Again, our bags go into the hold below. When we travel in groups anymore, we just use our 24 inch bag to check with a personal item to carry with us.
I just got my luggage backpack. Its so roomy. Love the tips, but all your recommendations (clothing, shoes, etc) are very expensive.
I'm tall. It is hard to find a place for my feet with a bag under the seat in front of me.
Who makes that knapsack?
Great video and esp about trying different methods to get things to fit better. I travel solo with my 2 kids and im down to personal item only on most of my trips with them. Luckily my airline lays me take medical devices and medications separately so it doesn't count towards baggage. Thank you spirit. Frontier does not. Love your videos.
Those look like good bags for under seat. TFS
What brand of cashmere sweater do you suggest? Thanks!
Question: Laurie, the link for fleece lined leggings you mentioned, takes us to fleece lined wide leg pants. This company also has a fleece lined 'legging' which is a bootcut. Can you clarify which style you liked? As per the link, which says it's a wide leg? Thank you!
Sun Country Airlines has a 17x13x9 dimensions for a personal bag. Eco Hub is my go to!
I love pockets, on any bag, that don’t interfere with interior space, in other words it doesn’t eat away room from the interior. Sometimes hard to find.
Well a few weeks ago I bit the bullet, used a coupon, & bought an Unbound Merino short sleeve shirt with a pocket in a medium blue. Loved it! Bought another in navy. Now I have one in black, ivory, & merlot (red) & am planning to use tha few of them on a short trip to see our daughter soon. Auditioning which colors will go with the lightweight beachy pants, & have settled on black for the fancier dinner with a pair of print flowy pants that look like a skirt. Could also use red. Think I'll take the tri-color beachy striped pants & use the medium blue & ivory. The blue striped shorts will go with any of those if it is hot there & my red sandals for any of those, gym shoes the rest of the casual days. Feels like I might actually be able to take carry on only & even be able to not need help! Exciting to try, but i like all my new tops, so hard to choose. A good problem to have!
Have you done a clip on how to deal with finding out you brought home bedbugs???
At 0.53 sec, the pop up states that we no longer have to pull out the liquids bag. At my airport, they are still making you pull out your liquids and put them in a bin so I am a bit confused. We can keep our shoes on but we have to pull out the liquids lol.
I recently traveled the British Isles for 3 weeks and just took a backpack. That was amazing for me because I'm generally an over-packer. My bag fit under the airline seats. It's dark blue. I always kept it on my back and was never asked to weigh or measure it.
