Hi Laurie! Love your tips but I often watch with just subtitles. When you show products in the lower left, it overlaps the subtitles. Could you please move your products to the upper left where there is seldom anything important shown? Thanks!

My husband and I each carry an Amazon Essentials backpack. The type we use has plenty of organizational pockets for our needs. We wrap the straps around the handles of our rolling suitcases so we can walk through the airport with ease. I always put my purse inside my backpack. We each have slings to carry our water bottles cross body, which is a huge help.

I have a similar lovevook backpack. And you are right that front pocket isn't designed correctly. My biggest gripe is it needs to have a two way zipper with two zipper pulls. This design is so inconvenient. I am getting rid of it and actively looking to replace it with something more functional.

It amazes me that airlines get testy about the weight of a bag. My grandma weighs 108 pounds. Some university linebacker weighs 300. Should they really have the same restrictions for their carry-on?

I love my Bagsmart blast backpack but yeah the padding for the laptop pocket was quite thick and i dont even possess a laptop. So i neatly removed the padding and it added more space to fit what is important to me.

On one of my tote bags, the trolley sleeve is so tight it’s hard to get off and on my suitcase handle. I liked the extra pockets next to the sleeve, but the sleeve isn’t easy to use.

I'm flying alone for the first time. Haven't flown since 2000. So basically first time flying.
I'm debating on checking my soft-sided suitcase & covering it with a "sleeve" & just using a personal bag for the plane.
    Any advice on doing this?
I'm not sure if using a sleeve is a good idea. My suitcase has a unique print & has front facing pockets/zippers.

Another suggestion I read was that those floors are filthy!!! and your putting your stuff on them under a seat, maybe put them in some kind of plastic bag or something that will keep them clean so you aren't later handling dirty bags and placing them on beds….. Also clean the wheels and even the suitcases after getting home or to the location where you are staying, again so you don't track that nasty dirt ( dirty bathroom floors, and other floors…) into your home or on you bed. Save up those zippered pouches you get sheets and other bedding things in, and those cloth bags that some things come in. They are handy to pack shoes or other items later. For people that are germaphobes, there are actually disposable or re usable seat covers for the plane!

Not related to this specific post. BUT for safety, I was told to count the number of seats between your seat and nearest exits on plane, so if there is an emergency and visibility is limited you could count the seat to the exit. And even count the number between the nearest and maybe a second option for exit. I almost think that it would be nice to have this info posted on each row to help get people out a bit easier in an emergency.

I have a front flap on my backpack, but they have two zippers, so not only can I use a zipper lock I can also keep one side zipped half way, so that when I open the pocket with the zipper on the other side, it's not going to fall open all the way.

You can smuggle clothes by laying them in your jacket, zipping it up and rolling the jacket up from the bottom.
Underwear can be placed in a 1 metre square scarf and army rolled to create a neck pillow.
Hopefully this should remove the need for a trolley case and you should just need to take a small personal item bag.

I do not see a lot of personal items that are not women targeted bags, maybe small backpacks. WTAF? I already have a backpack carryone (1,5lb instead of a wheeled carryon at least 4 lb from an allowed weight of 15lb, ) what can I bring as a personal item as a male traveler?

Personal item bag for me is a fairly large handbag with: phone (separate pocket), battery pack if it’s a long journey/layover, cable earbuds, pashmina/blanket scarf, separate coin purses for home & destination/layover currencies, RFID card holder, passport, tickets, insurance docs, glasses case, Vaseline tin, hand cream, antibacterial wipes, boiled sweets, mints, moisturising face mist, eye drops (I keep all liquids in a clear ziplock bag ready for security), maybe sun lotion/perfume, maybe destination guidebook/puzzle book & mechanical pencil, kindle/ipad. It usually fits inside/slots onto my cabin bag (spare clothes, computer, or everything else depending on if I have a checked suitcase already or not – I usually do).

Great tips, Laurie. Your question about pockets in a personal item bag, I tend to like using the mesh see-through organizing bags inside a bag with less pockets. That way, I’m not zipping and zipping 17 different compartments in my bag trying to find something.

I like pockets, but sometimes I find that some of the bags have too many pockets. Then I lose things, get frustrated, etc. 😂 I don’t really like the fact that most backpacks come with a computer pocket. I don’t travel with a laptop, because I have basically everything I need on my phone. And it’s one less thing to carry/worry about. Plus, if I take a backpack, I want to be able to pack it. If there’s a computer pocket, it greatly cuts down the area of space for other things. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I noticed that the Nomad Lane V2 Origami Tote is sold out. I did request that they notify me when in stock.
But I also noticed they do not courier to South Africa. Via Amazon import tax is basically more than the price of the bag.

But I am planning a trip to America in August. If I want to buy this, is there a store that I can buy this from?
I am in love with Nomad lane's bags and I went to our stores in Cape Town to find something similar and nothing I found I liked the same.

On some budget airlines in Europe you are only allowed one bag as a 'carry on', and no other bags including handbags, laptop bags or camera bags. Next year when I am doing a fly/cruise my cabin luggage allowance is no heavier than 10kg(22lb) and no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, my hold luggage allowance is 22kg (48.5lb). I can pay extra for more hold luggage.

I have been using a diaper bag backpack for years. It has just the right dimensions and is easy to organize with a changing pad included. I could use it to rest my head if I ever get stuck in an airport for a long time. While walking through the airport, I carry a crossbody bag with all of my valuables that is small enough to tuck into my backpack for boarding.

Hi Laurie, I had to add another comment. I borrowed my husband’s Aer backpack and one feature I realized I liked after using it is a mini pocket right on the top of his backpack for little items you need easy access to, like glasses, sunglasses, gum, ear buds, mini flashlight, etc. You can access it easily from the top of the bag without pulling the whole bag up/out to dig through the whole bag. My son’s Under Armour backpack has it and my daughter’s Port Authority backpack bag has it also (hers also had a trolley strap which surprised me). My husband’s bag also has a fairly large front pocket which closes with a buckle (separate from main compartment) which I used to easily access my liquids bag at security and to put back in after. Or for a poncho.

I travel with the 17" Embark adaptive backpack, which has 12 pockets (including 2 water bottle pockets and a laptop pocket), which is a ton for a wheelchair backpack. My brain hates having to dig for things (I don't mind taking the extra time to put away, but digging is a big nope), so the many pockets are what I rely on to be able to find what I need quickly. I don't carry a lot of stuff in my normal day to day life, so the backpacks (can't use a purse b/c of a shoulder injury in high school) I use when I'm not traveling just have 5 and 7 pockets (including 2 water bottle pockets and a laptop pocket – I use the laptop pockets to keep my calendar book from getting lost at the bottom of the backpack), and the one with 5 pockets is big enough that if I end up with an unexpected ER trip (like I did last summer), there's enough space to fit everything I need to bring with me.
