FOMO. You gonna regret NOT traveling enough. Why people travel and waiste time in short life? I still don't understand as long term traveler. Traveling is unproductive culture for soul.

I was 21 when I changed my life. I had my first job since a few months, I moved in my first own apartment and had my first relationship. I was a very active guy and had a 'diferent' lifestlye than most of other people at my age becuase I had no internet at home and I used my smartphone like 30 min a day and that was it. After work I never wanted to go home, instead I walked through my city, talked and played cards with strangers and had a great time with my friends.

In summer 2017 I decided to travel alone with just one backpack to Spain and travel from North to South for like 2 months.
I was just like 2 weeks there because my girlfriend had a bad time and because we were together like for a few weeks I didn't want to be an ahole as a partner so I already came back after 2 weeks.

2 years ago we broke up, we have a child and I will never be able to do it the exact same way. BUT even if it was just for 2 weeks, these were one of the best weeks in my life. I met a lot people, saw a lot things and it was in general one of the best times simply because I was just for me and lived in the moment.

The detours to explore are absolutely the best thing in the world. It gets even wilder when you're overlanding in central asia or hiking in the middle of nowhere. I could just do it my whole life, unfortunately i haven't stumbled upon a reliable way to monetise this lol

I transferred from an on-campus uni to an online one ‘cause I thought I’d go all in on my small business. But things didn’t really go how I expected. Now everything feels kinda confusing and lonely, and I feel like I’m falling behind or missing out on the whole “normal uni life” thing. Honestly, I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore.

I underwent something like this two years ago and it unfortunately had the exact opposite effect on me.
It just felt like I had lost valuable time and I even missed out on an opportunity to take a step towards solving my problems.
When I came back, I just felt even worse than before. By getting lost, I only ended up veering further off track.

Solo travel used to be my default. It was restful and relaxing, especially once I got a motorbike and didn't feel like a wierdo being just one guy driving a car. Instead, it wasn't just me on my own, it was me and the bike.
Eventually, I started to get bored of it and started exploring france with my french girlfriend, after a change of bike.
The #1 accessory for foreign travel is someone who speaks the goddamn language.

Although my vehicles don't break down, and I only cover one or two thousand miles over the course of a week because I'm in britain and there's only so far you can go in one direction without riding into the sea. I'm also not literally dropping everything; I just book time off work, book some hotels, pack my shit, and take off over the hills and far away. Literally over the hills, because I live in a valley. I even plan my routes from place to place, so I don't spend stressful hours getting horribly lost and instead spend slightly annoyed minutes figuring out where I went wrong.

Yes, the stress and work is still waiting for me at home, but I have fun memories to look back on, lots of photos, and more magnets to put up at work to brag about my travelling.

Also, fuck society's expectations. I've been ignoring those since I was a teenager.

What about the people who can't even leave everything and go somewhere? I feel like in an invisible cage and sinking deeper with every passing day… All dreams feel now impossible to achieve… Not a single person in life to even listen, no friends nothing… Just a mattress of few feet has become my world… I wish to be free someday…

I left everything behind in Cork, Ireland to move to Galway in 2018, taking only €1,400 cash, some bags of my most essentials and valuables and my bike after learning just how toxic and dysfunctional my family were, with no plan. It was very tough at first, terrifying even, living in a hostel I couldn't afford hoping the local council would give this poor soul a 2nd chance at life. I got a college cert, a job with 3 years experience, a brand new and much better reputation, a tonne of new friends, good people to spend birthdays and Christmas with, my depression is gone, I can afford nice holidays every year and my self-esteem has never been higher. If you know what you're dealing with, LEAVE, you'll figure out the rest, things will get worse before they get better if you leave but things wont get better at all if you stay with them

my uncle had done something similar, he was working jobs in factories after he got out of the army and he never felt free. He went to northern michigan, and he fell in love with it, the nature, the people, the beauty. He sold all his things besides his truck and his camper, and he bought 2 acres of land up there. He slept beneath the stars with his highschool sweetheart and he started his own plumbing business I think, and he built his house and had a life out there.
