Yes in Germany I had that exact thing – on escalator the guy wiped my shoulder with a Kleenex & I turned around then they grabbed my purse & roller & disappeared & I had zero $$ so went back to hotel & it was awful.
Laurie’s tips have been so helpful. I got a Travelon bag with clips and is slash proof. I also bought a vest with security pockets for trip to Europe. Peace of mind was worth it
This actually happened to me with a 2 person scheme in an elevator in Ohio! Though I was very careful in Barcelona hahaha
another one of my favourite travel youtubers, Steve Marsh just got his phone stolen from a pocket inEquador, live on camera!!! Great lesson. NO lanyard on it and even experienced travellers can be victims!
And they all YT EUROPEAN'S….
My friend had her phone stolen out of her pocket in Antigua, Guatemala during a religious parade.
Went to big market in Rome. I bought a crossbody bag. I carried it but of course it was empty. When I got back to the room however every single zipper – with the exception of the one next to my body – was unzipped!! Never felt a thing.
Bags with slash-proof straps and exteriors are a worthwhile investment. Because thieves will slash either/both. Also – if someone drops something – do NOT bend over to help them.
Before my last trip to Europe, I purchased an antitheft backpack and added a laptop combo lock to it to the single zipper. My young son and I could see and feel pick pockets trying to open my backpack and trying to slash it open. They were very unsuccessful. The only draw back of the backpack is the fact most security guards either forced me to coat check it or wanted to open and inspect it. Lesson learned get a cross body antitheft bag so you can keep it closed at all times.
Another tip: if you feel like people are crowding you or following you, feel free to make sudden stops and turns to see if they keep following you. Go into stores to get away from street traffic, especially if you need to access your wallet or anything valuable. The less predictable you are, the more crooks have to change their plans.
Put your valuables in your underwear, and you'll instantly know if anybody is grabbing at it. The fabric money belts are cheap, like less than $10, and washable when you sweat. Make sure to put the money and passport in a plastic Ziploc bag first, though, in case you sweat or get wet.
In Europe this happens mainly in France but foremost in Italy and its always the Romanians. Watch up for them. I have been attacked ofvthem 3 times but i hit them and hit them hard. So they have never got anything from me. And i do speak some italian too
Why i keep my stuff in my bra. You cant get in there without me noticing. I also only keep my phone and wallet on me.
Very good idea. I was almost picked pocket in Venice. But the bag was empty!❤❤❤❤
Conact Your governments state and city in writing -not online ! Ask them why nothing is beeing doneagainst these terrorists ?
PUBLISH it !
You need an ID, but it does not have to be your passport. Leave the passport in the hotel safe and carry your driver's license in a hidden pouch slung under your arm and hidden by a pullover.
money belt, tactical colostomy bag…
We really need to bring back vigilantly justice for these criminals if the cops wont do their jobs.
You know those personal safety alarms that you attach to your keys, i wonder if you can clip your wallet to it but have the alarm safety pinned in your bag/pocket so if it is removed by an unknowing person – EVERYONE will immediately know.
A pickpocket was up-close-&-personal on me at Costco, Ontario. I felt it & moved left & right, but she stayed with me. My pursed was in front and across my body, zipped up. There was nothing in my pockets. My jewelry was a watch, diamond bracelet& a necklace & stud diamond earrings. Everything had extra clasps & threads. Nothing in me was available for taking. There was a man earlier who was next to me. I felt like it was a couple working together. With no proof of her doing anything, I couldn’t do anything but walk away or verbally shout. So, she walked away & went on to her next victim. She came very close to getting punched in the throat! Then, I would have been in trouble with the law. That’s assault.
Ironically, I just watched a video about how easy it is to break into a hotel room safe using the factory reset code found online.
It's almost always groups of young women
I gave her advice to a friend that was going to Europe just like you’ve given she would not use a fanny pack. Her ID was stolen. It’s unbelievable how you can give advice and people don’t think it’s gonna happen to them like pickpockets only happened in Shakespeare’s time.
No, the best thing is to keep the bag in front of you and if it happens. Beat him hard
Great ideas😊😊😊
Be safe STAY HOME😂😂😂
I do prayer b4 I go on vacation 😂😂😂
I can't protect myself but GOD can 😂😂😂
THANK YOU for the info very helpful ❤❤❤
don't they have police? This can't be stopped??
Emphasize belt type goes under shirt or tucked in waistband.
Authorities should be doing something about it,after all ,these countries are making millions with turism😢
Good advice thank you.❤❤❤
Yes children at it too😢😢😢
Too bad we don’t have any of these ideas to keep our government officials from stealing from us
people have to be carful even in USA.. They prey on the elderly leaving purse in a shopping cart then turning their back
Good suggestions😊
Pacsafe. They can't cut through it. Don't help anyone with directions using your typed-in passcode (happened to my friend's kid). Better yet, stay home. Kidding, kidding. Be vigilant.
What a shame on Europe
You wear the money belt under your clothes and zip your bag and keep in the fromt
My method would be break hands ! Seriously 😂
THANK YOU.
And also wear a bag on the outside of your clothing as a detour. Something cheap and that you don’t care about. Carry a little cash, your comb, and lip balm in it.
