For my medicalky necessary meds and medical devices I use a designated medical bag and tagged as a medical bag so that TSA and a airline crew knows. It is not counted toward carry-on limit and declare it. I love the wheelchair service. Its very convenient.

I know sooo many people that only pay attention to departure time. Big mistake especially flying out of Atlanta!

Hi, Laurie. Your content is so helpful! Thank you! I have a question about a heating pad on a plane. I've researched it and it seems like they are allowed, up to 60 amps. But have you ever heard of anyone actually using one on a plane? Will there usually be a standard electrical plug? I have a neck condition that is relieved with heat, will be taking a 9+hour flight to Munich in December. Just wondering what you know about this. Thanks again!!

The Liquid rule might had change for the U.S. but if traveling overseas the smaller carriers will required you to pull out your liquid bag so do what Laurie says keep those items together. I found this with traveling with SATA.

So glad I found your page! Subscribed!! We are flying to Israel from DFW next spring. Our flight coming back to JFK will be an El Al operated flight – sooo much confusion on their website. I am worried I won’t be able to carry-on only. Do you have experience with El Al rules? My biggest concern is the size and weight and numbers of items I can carry on the long flight home.

I had partial knee replacement back in February, and it might set off the TSA scanner, so I asked my surgeon for a card saying that I have an implant. It’s plastic and the size of a drivers license, so I carry it with me in case I need it. I always tell the TSA officer that I have an implant.

Question – I am seeing some that to fly internationally you will be required to use face and fingerprint recognition soon. I wonder if that in conjunction with your passport and global entry. Have you heard about this?

A couple of tips I'd like to add, if I may. When I worked overseas, it was recommended that passengers arrive at least 2 hrs. before departure when traveling within the USA, but 3 hrs. before an international flight. When booking your trip, if you are going to be changing flights before arriving at your final destination, pay attention to how much layover time you will have between flights. I always like to allow 2-3 hrs. to make sure I have enough time to get to my next boarding gate, allowing for any unseen difficulties, especially if it is a large airport and/or you will be changing airlines. For example, once in Seattle, I had only a 45 min. layover, which technically should have been enough time to get to my next boarding gate, but I made a wrong turn somewhere and suddenly found myself outside of the secure area and had to go back through TSA. By the time I got to my assigned gate, they had already closed it, and the aircraft was just starting to leave, so I had to wait for the next flight to my destination. Also, when I have a layover, whenever possible, I immediately go find my next assigned gate before I do anything else. That way I can check where the nearest restrooms and/or restaurants are and determine if I have any time to get a bite to eat or go anywhere else before my next flight. This goes hand in hand with the tip of using the restroom an hour before your flight lands, as you will be less likely to be frantically looking for a restroom when you deplane, and competing with all the other people who have just deplaned!

I often need help with my dog and a husband that has dementia. Since I have to go through the large screening machine, I need to take the dog with me, and my husband can go through the regular screening alone. How do I manuver this situation? Very anxious in this situation since we are 80 and 85. Please help. I haven’t seen anything on taking animals through TSA. Should I get TSA Cares for this situation?

Give yourself extra time, because the TSA is looking for any reason to waste your time. Remember that they are wasting their own time as much as yours.
