Anyone else is watching this video on January 1st 2025?
Laurie, how can I prevent getting “patted down” because I have a spinal fusion and knee replacements. I tell them that, but I light up the machine that I have to step in and put my hands up. Then I have to wait while my things on the conveyor belt are unattended when I travel alone. It’s happened about 4 of the last 5x I’ve flown.
I only use see through pouches for everything. That way I don't have to unzip anything to see what's what.
Fire bags for lithium products are good.
The best tips. I love this lady!
I travel a lot and have gotten it most of my packing down to a science, but I learned a few things watching this. I'm still working on my carry-on bag. I haven't found a system that really works for me, though I can get through the security line pretty quickly. This video might have given me what I needed. Now to find a carry-on bag that I love.
I thought the medication had to be in the Rx bottle.
The detail in your video is amazing! What great tips. I'll be using them when I travel as a tour manager.
I got the global entry so TSA is always a breeze. However, I mistakenly put a tube of hair color paste the same size as a regular toothpaste in my carry-on suitcase last time when I went to Cabo San Lucas. It was confiscated by the Mexican airport staff.
Do checked bags get x-rayed before they go into the plane?
I'm planning on checking a bag on an international trip (mainly because I'm planning on buying bottles of alcohol to bring back) and I want to use an airtag. Are those safe in the belly of the plane? Obviously they advertise that they can be used to track luggage, but they use lithium watch batteries?
I only travel every 2 – 3 years. So it is harder to organize
I would add a nightie and basic toiletries😂 in the personal bag in a compression cube. Personal experience — got stuck overnight in St. Martin on New Year’s Eve , on our way to St. Kitt’s .
I bought a 2 foldies. One to keep in car and one to travel with. I will stuff it FULL with nutcrackers at the Christmas markets! ☺️
This is great content. My secret for packing my personal item is that I pack everything I need to be comfortable on the plane in one Ziploc bag and then I have a Ziploc bag for snacks. That way when I get on the plane I just put both of those bags out in their entirety and I have everything I need accessible. I also have my electronic devices all in one pouch so I can just grab that entire thing or I should say lean over in my seat that’s as tight as a mammogram
The tray table cover reviews report that multiple airlines in the USA won't let passengers use these. Sad.
YES!!! The in-flight needs pouch is one of my most vital items when I travel. I used the same items on my flight to Europe, my trains and buses around France, my night stand, and even in my seat during the events I attended at the Olympics. I also include it in my day bag and beach bag when I went on day trips to other countries from France. My everyday carry essentials are the same as my inflight essentials except that I add my AirFly and my passport.
Hi! Thank you for all of your tips! You have been very helpful. We are taking our first trip to Europe in January and I am trying to pack as smart as possible. Thanks again!
What size is your navy striped bag?
Unless your charging cord has a different usb end, you might not need to carry the specific cord for every item that needs to be charged. Just an example, for me, both my phone and my tablet have a usb c plug. I bring one retractable charge cord that has at least 2 usb c ends.
Love all these essential time-saving tips! Because I will need to also pack my leather handbag inside my travel bag, as I will be using it for my destination which is for a court trial; where and how to not only get it in without it taking up too much space, but also not ruining it?
Less is more when travelling .
From Australia we now need to put handbag /money belt/ into Carry one on bag total weight 7kilos. So being super organised is the key. Checked luggage takes everything else.. I also had my checked suitcase go missing for a 3 days from Spain to Morocco and we were on a tour. Thank goodness I always pack a spare outfit with sandals going to hot country this saved me. Being a curvy girl very difficult to buy clothes that fit. The suitcase was sent ahead to where we were travelling to next and I had to wait for 3 hours at airport alone. Our guide organise to take me to airport and a taxi driver was booked to take me back to hotel. Hardly anyone spoke English 😅
Love that mammogram chirp 🎉
Excellent information ❤❤❤
Hi Laurie! Glad I found your site a few weeks ago. Very helpful – thanks! Be sure to remind your hubby that you are very pretty and have a great personality! In case he forgot! 🙂 Cheers!
Squeezed tight like a mammogram! Ha!
Where do I find a luggage rack for home to sit my luggage on instead of my bed?
I carry a neon yellow nylon bag (small with a drawstring and super light weight, fits in my pocket) as I approach TSA I put EVERYTHING inside it. Watch, phone, items from my pockets, sunglasses, earbuds, purse, ID, belt, water bottle, ….all of it. As I pass TSA, I grab my neon yellow bag and go. Quick, simple, and hard to mess up. NEVER lost anything at an airport.
I’ve been thinking of trying Foldie cross body bag because it is RFID. Any thoughts?
Years ago, I heard it’s helpful to save old undies throughout the year and pack them for a trip. Toss them daily to make space for your purchases. I’ve done it, it works and lightens the load.
I bought a pouch in Marshals a set of 3 , large, medium and small they nest . I added another pouch that has 3 layer packet. 3 layered pouch-toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth related, second row-pads,3rd row- wipes, restroom spray, antibacterial spray, bowl cover, small flashlight. The 3 pouch: small-eye cover, universal plane earphone, compression socks, medium pouch-writing pads, pen. Large bag contained all the pouches. They are flat and plenty of room's. I did moved my small medication barrels in that pouch as well. If I need to go to restroom, I just pulled the 3 layers pouch. I'm been using this for a while got one for international and for local flights. Can use carabiners on them . I always travel with a roller back pack 15 “ Kipling and a multifunction back pack (as my shoulder bag). Of course I always do check-ins. I vacuum my clothes and put them in compression bag to be more organized. I always carry extra clothes and shawl for emergency. I asked my friend to buy me a sachet shampoos/toothpaste in the Philippines, bought some in Peru as well.
Catherine from Georgia USA here! Great Ideas! I like clear plastic zipper bags. One idea you shared a while back is a RED! Lid for jewelry. I use an old round RED! Tupperware Lid. I always keep a pack of tissue in my handbag inside personal bag to use in toilets with NO tissue. I think we are supposed to put all snacks and food in a gallon bag, not loose.? The rules and regs constantly change and make us so crazy. I have GLOBAL ENTRY/PreCheck. Thanks for all you do to help us Miss Laurie.
“Squeezed tight like a mammogram” – repeatable analogy!!!😂

Wonderful advice! 😍
Wear a lightweight vest with lots of pockets for phone, passport, keys, , bank cards, cash, glasses etc. Frees up space in the personal bag..
I'm planning to buy compression socks for a long flight. I think you recommended Dr Scholls. Can you be more specific? Amazon has several pairs. I have a pair of compression hose from a doctor, but they are uncomfortable at the knee and create lines around the ankle that take hours to go away. I can't wait to take them off after a while plus the toes are exposed. Thanks
Pouches/bags that are clear so I can see the content are the most useful for me. After TSA, I rearrange my small liquid containers into my personal bag and put the larger size into my carry-on . I usually pack one bag for sleep comfort like earbuds, neck pillow, and eye mask, one bag for skincare/toiletry, one bag for first aid/vitamins/ointment/meds, and finally, one bag for snacks. All of them are clear bags so I can pull out what I need during a long flight. I always pack a big scarf that doesn't take much room and a Merino wool neck gaiter; also use compression socks. I change into comfortable slippers and use my backpack as a foot rest during the flight. That works much better for me than the foot sling.
Heads up. Watch your under the seat in front of you bags. Five hours into a ten hour flight the young person in front of me was tugging on my backpack trying to pull it up to her. She probably would have cleaned me out. All my valuables were in it! Probably thought the old lady (me!) was asleep by now. I rest my both feet on it and felt her tugging! Never trust anyone!!
😸😸
Hey Laurie! First off, love your videos! Question. Any recommendations for what helps with sinus issues from the dry air on the plane? On my last long haul flight, I resorted to using paper towels from the bathroom I soaked in water to hold over my nose to help breath in some moisture. I recently bought some saline nasal spray to see if that would work for my upcoming trip to Istanbul. OMG, how can people use this stuff? The saline made me gag! Any suggestions is much appreciated!
hi Laurie: love your videos. boston trip is on Sept 12. first trip in 16yrs anywhere. purchased many things you recommended and love them all. i am ready but here is what just happened. Boston Hotels Hospitality workers voted to Strike weekend before Labor day
so i emailed the tour to ck how this will affect the tour. any tips during my hotel stay w be helpful. xo mjgpgh pa
I absolutely love your videos. We recently wnet to Scotland and Ireland for 2 weeks. It was my first trip overseas.I learned to leave just in case items at home.. At least a third of what I brought I didn’t use and was just extra weight to lug around. I also need a lighter suitcase. My old ones are heavy. Your ideas are great ones and I will be using many on the next trip. Thank you!
He last trip I used a purse organizer that zipped.I’m now rethinking that as it was about the same size as the seat pocket and I had too much stuff in it. Def going to do different pouches with whatever bag I choose
Those batteries are a huge deal. A UPS sorting center almost burned down like last year due to someone not being careful with some in an 18 wheeler!
The more I look at the cute bags I have, the more I ask why not just use zip lock bags. I MUST do something with my personal item backpack. It’s like a black hole and I’m going to start putting things in ziplocks or packing organizers. Thanks!
